Our Story

OnClassical (onclassical.com) was founded in 2002 by the musician and music producer, Alessandro Simonetto.
The vision: to bring together some of the most exceptional talents in the classical music realm.

Past

Initially, the project began as a collection of artist profile pages showcasing performances as MP3 and WMA files, accessible to the public. This platform served as a springboard for exposure for the featured artists.

In 2004, the endeavor evolved into a registered recording firm based in Vicenza, Italy. As the initiative gained momentum, the onclassical.com catalog gradually refined its focus to showcase recordings of superior quality. A further refinement occurred in 2006 when projects were exclusively supervised and executed by its founder.
In subsequent years, OnClassical produced and licensed substantial discographic sets, primarily to Brilliant Classics, including Simone Stella's pre-Bach cycle, totaling about sixty records.

Present

Over time, the label gained international recognition for its commitment to audio excellence and the meticulous curation of its artist roster.
Currently, the OnClassical catalog boasts over three hundred solo and chamber music productions, recorded using equipment owned by the label, two Steinway D-274 'Grand' pianos, including selected by non other than M° Arturo Benedetti-Michelangeli in the 70's, and a double-manual harpsichord built upon Johannes Ruckers, Antwerp 1638.

Repertoire

At OnClassical we normally record monographic repertoires.
Our current projects encompass a wide array of musical endeavors, including keyboard works by Johann Sebastian Bach, complete cycles of Beethoven and Mozart interpreted on piano and piano duo (violin, cello), an integral collection of Schubert's Piano Sonatas, and the complete piano works of iconic composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin, Debussy, Satie, Stravinsky, and more. Notably, our catalog has recently expanded to feature some of the most intriguing works by minimalist composers, including Richter, Einaudi, Tiersen, and Glass.
In 2023, a new project has come to life, focusing on the Complete Keyboard Sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti. This significant milestone comprises a total of 30 discs with the involvement of 15 pianists.

Some of the names that have placed their trust in our recordings, often featured in our catalog, include: Giuseppe Bruno, Gala Chistiakova, Alessandro Deljavan, François Dumont, Massimiliano Ferrati, Giuseppe Greco, Alexander Lubyantsev, Gianluca Luisi, Enrico Pace, Evgeny Starodubtsev, Natalia Sokolovskaya, and Maurizio Zaccaria, to mention a few.

Since 2015, OnClassical has been successfully distributed by Naxos of America (Naxos Digital) and has garnered over 100 million listens on Spotify.
