Domenico Scarlatti, an influential Italian composer of the Baroque era, is renowned for his exceptional contribution to keyboard music, particularly the harpsichord and early pianofortes. Born in Naples in 1685, Scarlatti's life paralleled the Baroque era, aligning with contemporaries Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel. Scarlatti's significant body of work includes an astounding 555 keyboard sonatas, a genre he substantially enriched and expanded.

Around 1719, Scarlatti entered royal service, becoming the court composer for Maria Barbara, who later married the Spanish King Ferdinand VI. Following the royal couple's move to Madrid in 1729, Scarlatti continued his role, influencing the musical scene in Spain. It is believed that the majority of Scarlatti's keyboard sonatas, known for their innovation and daring harmonic exploration, were composed during his tenure in Spain. Notably, he had access to various keyboard instruments, including the harpsichord and the harp, which significantly influenced the unique character of his sonatas.
Scarlatti's compositions were diverse, ranging from binary to early sonata forms. Despite his prolific output, only a fraction of his works, comprising 30 sonatas titled "Essercizi" (Exercises), were published during his lifetime in 1738. Scarlatti's legacy endures as a master of keyboard expression, and his sonatas continue to captivate audiences with their audacity and ingenuity.

Maurizio Zaccaria, a distinguished artist in the realm of classical music, has etched a lasting legacy with his remarkable recordings. Critics universally praise his interpretations, which showcase a remarkable blend of depth and subtlety.
