The TrisTango

Conceived with the purpose of offering Astor Piazzolla's tango by playing those instruments which are its vital core, the TrisTango has shown an ability of combining both a faithful and a creative interpretation of the original music. The Trio (now a Quartet!) has remained far from numberless interpretations which only emphasize the melodic aspect of Piazzolla's music. It has gone where the young Piazzolla in the fifties got inspiration for his new music, that is contemporary classical music - and, most of all, jazz - but it has expanded its performances by absorbing the evocative sounds of new contaminations, such as ethnic music and has given wide space to improvisations. The result is an overwhelming emotional strenght which pours out from the musicians on to the audience.
Its eclecticism allows the TrisTango to perform both in classical music seasons and jazz festivals, and furthermore it is really interesting with orchestra accompaniment.

Massimiliano Pitocco - bandoneòn

Massimiliano Pitocco studied Accordion in Paris with Max Bonnay and obtained a degree at the National Higher Conservatory in 1992 and at the "Ville de Paris" Conservatory in 1993. In the same year he won the first prize with gold medal at the regional contest of "Ile de France". In 1992 Mr. Pitocco took an Organ degree "Cum Laude" in Pescara and, after that, a degree in Accordion at the Conservatory of Bari.

Massimiliano is winner of several International Accordion contests. Among these he was awarded the first prize at Castelfidardo ('86 and '88 editions) and the second prize at the "World Cup" organized in Switzerland (89th edition). He is often invited to hold seminars and conferences at the most important international competitions.

Massimiliano has been playing Bandoneòn for some years, devoting his attention particularly to the tango, especially Astor Piazzolla's music. In fact, he founded the "Four for Tango Quartet."

Massimiliano Pitocco, both as soloist and with orchestras of the major theatres of the world, has cooperated with famous artists such as: Milva, Luis Bacalov, Ennio Morricone, Sylvano Bussotti, Gidon Kremer, Nicola Piovani, Vinicio Capossela, Sebastiano Lo Monaco, Leopoldo Mastelloni, and David Riondino.

He has recorded a lot of works with record studios such as Sculture d'Aria, Rivoalto Ducale and Azzurra; for Dynamic, he recorded the first performance of the "Opera Maria de Buenos Aires".

Mr. Pitocco teaches at the "S.Cecilia" Conservatory of Rome and the "Musical Accademy" in Pescara.

Daniele Roccato - double bass

Daniele Roccato is considered one of the most interesting and active soloists on the Italian and European scene today. His musical studies started at a young age when he took up the violin and the guitar. He then went on to study the double bass under the guidance of Federico Garberoglio. During this period, Mr. Roccato was called to play the lead instrument with the most important youth orchestras, such as the Orchestre des Jeunes de la Méditerranée, the E.U.Y.O., the Orchestra Giovanile Italiana, the Orchestra Internazionale Alpe-Adria. Daniele was winner of numerous musical competitions.

Daniele Roccato graduated with full honors and a cum laude and he immediately began to perform as lead instrument with some of the most important Italian and international orchestras and began working with leading musical directors and recording for labels such as, Deutsche Grammophon and BMG. Daniele soon decided to dedicate himself full time to the concert circuit, focusing on a traditional repertoire as well as a contemporary one. He has performed musical pieces never before played and performed musical compositions written just for him. He has also transcribed numerous musical pieces that have been performed and recorded and some which he has personally edited for publication.

Mr. Roccato has performed in a number of concerts as a soloist and as a duo, accompanied by the piano. As a soloist he performed with the Orchestra della Radio of Sofia, Stravinsky Chamber Orchestra, La Camerata Musicale, Orchestra da Camera G. Malipiero, Orchestra Sinfonica of Perugia, etc. He has been invited as soloist to play in some of the most important concert halls in Italy and abroad: Berlin, Sofia, Munich, Paris, Casablanca, Havana, etc. He has been on many television programs and he has recorded for labels such as, Velut Luna and OnClassical. The critics have often noted the originality in his musical language and his remarkable technical prowess. He is the founder of the group TrisTango (bandoneon, double bass and piano) in which he introduces a new way of presenting the double bass; there are violin parts, ethnic sounds and notes, improvisations that meld together the different genres.

Daniele Roccato also performed with the Nu-Ork Quintet with Lucio Dalla in 2005. On tour Daniele played in theaters and some of the most suggestive archaeological sites throughout Italy. He has the teaching chair for the study of double bass at the Conservatory of Music of Perugia and holds three-year specialization courses at the Accademia Internazionale delle Arti in Rome, and he is often asked to hold master classes.

Saverio Tasca - vibraphone and percussion
